Do88 Intake Manifold | BMW S58
The do88 Charge Cooler Manifold is a comprehensive intake and charge-air cooling upgrade developed for high-performance BMW S58 applications.
The factory S58 intake manifold integrates the charge cooler directly into its thermoplastic construction. While effective at factory power levels, increased boost, repeated high-load driving and substantial power upgrades can expose limitations in both cooling performance and durability.
do88 addresses these limitations with an extensively engineered cast-aluminium intake manifold featuring a 127 mm (5”) Bar & Plate air-to-water charge cooler core, increased airflow, integrated auxiliary port injection provisions and additional ports for advanced engine setups.
High-Performance Bar & Plate Charge Cooler
At the centre of the manifold is a 127 mm (5”) thick Bar & Plate air-to-water intercooler core, designed to improve both charge-air cooling and airflow.
The core is approximately 62% larger than the factory unit, with carefully developed air and water fin configurations designed to balance heat transfer with minimal airflow restriction.
According to do88’s testing, the manifold achieved:
- 28.5°C intake temperature, compared with 33°C using the OE charge cooler manifold
- 511 CFM airflow at 0.05 bar / 0.73 psi pressure drop, compared with 422 CFM for the OE manifold
- Approximately 21% higher airflow under the stated test conditions
CFD-Developed Cast Aluminium Construction
Rather than simply machining an aluminium replacement for the factory manifold, do88 developed purpose-designed cast end tanks to optimise the distribution of both charge air and cooling water across the core.
Development included 3D scanning, SolidWorks design, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), multiple design iterations and 3D-printed prototypes before the final design was produced.
The resulting aluminium construction also provides a significantly more robust solution for engines operating at elevated boost pressures compared with the factory thermoplastic manifold.
Integrated Auxiliary Port Injection
The outlet tank is prepared from the factory for six auxiliary port fuel injectors, making the manifold particularly suitable for higher-power S58 builds requiring additional fuel delivery.
A custom fuel rail with female AN-8 connections is included and is designed for use with compatible injectors including:
- Injector Dynamics ID1050x-34-14 / ID1050x-34-14-14
- Bosch EV14 short-style injectors
For vehicles not running port injection, injector blanking plugs are included.
Nitrous & Methanol Injection Ready
Each individual cylinder runner incorporates its own 1/8” NPT port, allowing additional functionality for setups using nitrous or methanol injection.
Sealing plugs are supplied for vehicles where these ports are not required.
Additional Sensor & Vacuum Ports
An integrated three-port pad is cast into the side of the outlet tank, providing three additional 1/8” NPT connections.
These can be used for additional sensors, data acquisition or as supplementary vacuum sources depending on the vehicle’s configuration.
Sealing plugs are included.
Advanced Thermal Management
Because aluminium transfers considerably more heat than the factory plastic manifold, do88 includes a purpose-designed thermal barrier spacer between the cylinder head and intake manifold.
The spacer helps reduce conductive heat transfer into the manifold, supporting lower intake-air temperatures and reducing heat soak during sustained high-load operation.
Custom high-specification FKM-silicone O-rings sit within precision-machined grooves to provide a secure seal between the cylinder head, thermal barrier and manifold.
A total of 12 custom O-rings are supplied.
